Google Business Profile Verification: A Practical Guide

Verification fails on small inconsistencies. Get your business information identical everywhere before you start.

Verification is a consistency test. Google is checking that your business exists where you say it does, under the name you claim, doing what you describe. Most failures come from small mismatches between your profile, your website, your registration documents and your signage.

Before you request verification

  • Business name exactly as it appears in the real world — no added keywords or location tags.
  • Address formatted identically to your utility bills, registration and website footer.
  • A phone number that rings at that location and is published on your site.
  • A website that clearly names the business and address.
  • Categories chosen accurately, with the primary category being the most specific true option.

Verification methods

Depending on category, location and history you may be offered video verification, postcard, phone, email or instant verification through Search Console. Video verification is now common and is where most avoidable failures happen.

Passing video verification

  1. Prepare before recording: signage visible, equipment or stock on show, and a way to prove you can access non-public areas.
  2. Record in one continuous take — start outside with street signage, walk to the entrance, show the interior, then show proof of management such as keys, a till, or branded equipment.
  3. Keep the business name, address and any licence documents in frame at some point.
  4. Good light, steady hand, no cuts, no narration required but it helps to state what you're showing.

If it fails

You can usually reattempt, sometimes with a different method. Fix the inconsistency that likely caused the failure first — most commonly a name mismatch or an address that looks residential. For service-area businesses, make sure the profile is configured as a service area rather than a storefront.

Note

Verification and reinstatement outcomes are decided by Google. We prepare the documentation, configure the profile correctly and manage the process — we don't control the decision.
