How To Fix Merchant Center Disapprovals
Most disapprovals trace to feed data, price and availability mismatches, or missing policy pages. Work the diagnostics in order.
Merchant Center is strict because it powers shopping surfaces where wrong prices cost users money. Almost every disapproval is a data-consistency issue between your feed, your landing page and your policies — not an arbitrary decision.
The frequent causes
- Price mismatch between feed and landing page, including currency and tax display.
- Availability mismatch — feed says in stock, page says sold out.
- Missing or inadequate returns and refund policy pages.
- Missing contact information or unclear business identity.
- GTIN, MPN or brand errors and duplicate identifiers.
- Image issues: promotional overlays, watermarks, placeholder images.
- Restricted or misclassified products, including claim language in titles and descriptions.
Diagnostic order
- Open the Products → Needs attention view and group issues by type, not by product.
- Fix the highest-count issue first; it usually resolves in one feed change.
- Check the crawl status of your landing pages — blocked crawling produces mismatch errors that look like price errors.
- Verify structured data on product pages matches your feed exactly.
- Resubmit and allow a full crawl cycle before judging the fix.
Prevention
- Automate the feed from the same source of truth as your storefront, with a scheduled refresh frequent enough for your price changes.
- Add microdata or JSON-LD product markup so Google can cross-check.
- Keep clear shipping, returns and contact pages linked in the footer.
- Set up email alerts for account-level issues and review the Diagnostics tab weekly.
Account-level suspensions
These are more serious than item disapprovals and usually relate to misrepresentation or policy pages. Fix the site issues thoroughly before appealing — and note that reinstatement is Google's decision.
